Windsor is a wicked hockey town. The list of incredible players who grew up in Windsor is bonkers, let alone those who’ve come through the Spitfires and Lancers organizations. The support for men’s and women’s hockey in Windsor is unparalleled and we couldn’t be happier to have called this town home for BLHP since 2021.

Beer League Hockey Practice will be taking the spring and summer off, and BLHP Shinny is back! The spirit of Beer League Hockey Practice lives in these friendly pickup games where anyone is welcome, as long as they’re not ringers, and come to the arena with a positive and supportive attitude towards their fellow Beer Leaguers.

We have shinny available on Monday and Thursday evenings at Central Park Athletics. Unlike previous seasons where we’ve had two pads simultaneously, this season we’ll have the Novice shinny at 8:00pm followed by the Intermediate shinny at 9:00pm on the same ice pad. There will be two 8-week seasons labelled as “Spring” and “Summer” seasons.

Many of you who are current Beer Leaguers will know which skate to sign up for. If you’re unsure which group is best suited for you:

Novice - If you're newer to the sport and want to get some experience in game situations then this is the place to be. There is zero judgement in this space. If you often feel like you don’t have time or space enough to do anything but panic and throw the puck away when you get it, you can count on this being the place to build confidence.

Intermediate - This game is reasonably fast paced. Most people who are signing up for our intermediate level have played at various levels throughout their life or have several years playing experience. You'll find it to be moderately competitive, but still prohibitive to AAA players trying to raise their draft ranking (no ringers!) Although we still require players to exhibit sportsmanship and avoid overly aggressive play, there is a level of competitiveness in this game
